The Brief
The lab required stable, tightly controlled internal conditions to support algae growth and dependable research work. The scope also needed advanced air quality and extraction capability, plus safety-focused systems aligned to a laboratory environment.
Project Overview
A key factor in successful algae research environments is precise temperature control alongside strong air quality and extraction. Stable conditions support reliable outcomes, while effective outside air and exhaust systems help protect sensitive cultures and maintain a safe workspace. MAPS completed HVAC and laboratory mechanical services for the Murdoch University Algae Lab, delivering packaged plant, building management monitoring, and specialist extraction and gas safety systems.
The Solution
Packaged Plant and Temperature Stability
MAPS installed three Temperzone package type units to support stable temperature control across the lab environment. BMS Monitoring
A Schneider BMS setup was incorporated to monitor the installed systems and support system monitoring and visibility. Air Quality, Outside Air, and Extraction
The works included various outside air and exhaust systems alongside extraction elements designed for laboratory use, supporting clean air management and operational safety. Laboratory Services and Gas Safety
Specialist mechanical services were installed for fume cupboards and laboratory gases, with an additional lab gas monitoring system implemented to support safe day-to-day use.
Outcome
Murdoch University Algae Lab now has new mechanical services in place that combine packaged conditioning, monitored operation, and lab-specific air quality, extraction, and gas safety systems to support ongoing research activities.
Client Feedback
Feedback on handover was strongly positive, particularly around the lab’s improved temperature stability and the confidence that the outside air, extraction, and fume cupboard systems support a cleaner, safer working environment.
